NPS Rangers Share Parks’ Secrets

CNN.com is running a summer series featuring recommendations from National Park Service rangers about the parks they serve, which is a very cool idea.

Here’s a link to an installment about my favorite, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina. It has that status because it’s where I caught my first wild trout on a fly.

If you want to win a bar bet sometime, ask this trivia question: Which national park has the greatest visitation?

Most people will bet that it’s the Grand Canyon or perhaps Yellowstone, but the winning answer is Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Annual visitation exceeds 9 million people, usually more than twice that of whatever park comes in second.
