Hilton Waikoloa Village – Big Island, HI

Ah the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii. This is one of my favourite properties, it has so much to offer and for people of all ages…and of course, it’s in Hawaii! I want to thank Leanne Pletcher for making this visit possible. And also to thank Ryan Cabebe at Hertz, Kona for setting us up with the right car for this trip!

The resort stands on 62 acres of beautifully manicured and landscaped property on the shore of the Pacific. Just a little bit north of the Kona airport, it is very easy to get to. The resort offers 1,240 luxury rooms with many amenities. We love staying in the Ocean Tower when we get the chance to visit. I love being able to stand on my balcony and watch the ocean, and at this time of year, the whales!

There are many ways to get around the resort. There is a tram which will take you from one end to the other, with walking paths to connect you with all other areas and also a canal with pretty little boats to take you along, this is a very nice way to travel through and take in the views. You can also, of course, walk the resort. The museum walkway is a great way to get around and you then get to enjoy much of the $7 million dollars worth of artwork which is displayed throughout the resort. It is truly spectacular!

The Hilton Waikoloa Village offers many fun and exciting things to do. From 2 championship golf courses, a seaside miniputt, 3 beautiful and refreshing pools some with water slides…one of which, Willem’s favourite, is 175 feet long! You have your hot tubs and an adult pool by the Ocean Tower. There are 9 restaurants on property, all of which offer a scrumptious choice of meals and snacks. There is the Legends of the Pacific Luau also, which is something all must enjoy at least once! Club Keiki is a great spot to drop off the kids, ages 5-12, if mom and dad want to take a bit of time to themselves, they offer activities and care for the young ones, keeping them busy and tiring them out for the parents while the parents get some time together. I have a feeling most kids would rather stay with the counselors of Club Keiki hahaha, they have so much fun! For spa lovers, you’re not left out either, the Kohala Spa has a wonderful fitness center and the spa offers a wide variety of treatments.

There really is something for everyone at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

My favourite spot on property is the Lagoon. I could spend every day there, lazing on the beach, but especially snorkeling in the clear, cool waters. This is no dull snorkel in a pool either! I get to swim with the critters I love so much! Green Sea Turtles and a large variety of beautiful tropical fish. Last time I visited, I even had a spotted eagle ray beside me! Yes, I get VERY excited when I know I can snorkel here. With 2 underwater cameras now and my own snorkel gear, I made sure to find some time to get in the water before we left, this trip. And I was lucky once again. I came almost nose to nose with a sea turtle, which will teach me to look ahead while swimming and not down haha! I also saw some colourful finned friends. I can’t wait to go back!

On the Tuesday night, which happened to be Valentine’s Day, we enjoyed the Legends of the Pacific Luau. That is such a great time. The food is fabulous. Starting off with pupus of a large variety, great drinks and then the main course which was so delicious and filling. The kalua pork and tarro root are always among my favourites. The entertainment can’t be beat! The performers who put on this show are fabulous, they really get into the story-telling and the dancing is just beautiful and some very energetic! We all of course loved the fire dancer, he is something else! And you can tell he really loves what he does. A couple of them had fun playing tug-o-war with Maurice at the end of the night! Do yourself a favour and partake in one of the luaus, you won’t regret it.

All in all, the Hilton Waikoloa Village is a topnotch resort as far as I’m concerned. The staff is friendly and helpful, the property is beautiful and has so much to offer, you really must plan your next trip there!
